by tuiss :: Tessutto Dusty Teal roman blind

Did you know that the colour teal is named after the common teal, a member of the duck family, whose eyes are surrounded by the colour?

Teal is also one of those ‘new-fangled’ colours that you’re never quite sure if you know what is! (A bit like duck egg – what is it with all these ducks?) If you’re not sure, teal is a medium blue-green colour. Easy!

Teal is loved by many so we are very proud of our new Dusty Teal roman blind which is spot on with its blue-green hue.

Teal works very well either as an accent colour or as the main colour and just to prove it here are some fabulous room shots plus paint and wallpaper that really work that teal tingle. (Just click here to order that teal sample or blind!)

by tuiss :: Mondo venetian blinds with cotton tapes

We have just expanded our range of venetian blinds with tapes, otherwise known as the Mondo Collection. Previously we had the Brevis range featuring 25mm slats but its now expanded to include a big brother by the name of Maxim that features a wider 50mm slat.

The Maxim range also includes a choice of either full slat or perforated slat. There are various colour ways including white, cream, grey, silver and black and then different cotton tapes to give a look that harmonises or contrasts.

The great thing about the tapes is that they transform the blind giving it a softer look and perfect for more areas of your home.

Here are just some of our new range, click the link to see all the new blinds in their glory.

Thursday thought by tuiss :: Babybel candles

Thursday thought is all about doing something simple to do your bit to help the planet. This one isn’t ever so simple but it does sound like fun!

My children love Babybels but I do ever so slightly fell aggrieved at both the cost and the packaging. Well I’ve sorted one of them! I spotted on Condo Blues a great idea of turning the red wax into a candle.  Instructables also gives instructions for candle-making with babybels.

by tuiss :: Pure Linen roman blind

Beautiful natural fabrics are a wonderful, wonderful thing, they can instantly lift the spirit and remind us of the simple things in life.

Maybe it’s asking a bit much of our Wild Linen roman blind but we love it nonetheless! It’s 100% pure linen and looks fabulous when it hangs at the window.

The linen woven fabric boasts a relaxed weave that’s shot with mushroom tones and the occasional darker fleck.

Natural materials will always add a luxurious touch to a room and that’s exactly what this Wild Linen Beige roman blind will do. We can see it nestled among other textures and soft furnishings for a homely yet opulent look.

Here are a bunch of other linens that will all add a certain something to a room…

by tuiss :: New Cadence roman blinds

I love roman blinds so couldn’t be happier that our already sizeable roman blind collection just got bigger with the Cadence collection!

This collection is about three things; texture, folds and head rails. Let me explain…

Each of the blind fabrics has a wonderful texture, many feature our Tessutto fabric which has a lovely soft corded weave and hangs beautifully. By the way we also have a 100% pure natural linen blind too.

Talking of hanging, these blinds also feature a sumptuous style of folding whereby the folds can be seen even when the blind is fully raised, check out our video on any one of the product pages for an illustration and explanation.

Finally, all of the blinds use our Deluxe Perfect Raise head rail which is the smoothest operation that there is via an endless aluminium loop, check out the video!

I’ve only featured six blinds here, please click through to see them, or click just here to browse the entire collection.

by tuiss :: Venetian blinds with grosgrain tape

We’ve only just launched the Mondo Brevis range of venetian blinds with grosgrain tape but they are already proving very popular indeed.

As I blogged at the time of their launch these blinds offer all the function and practicality of a venetian blind (so easy to adjust the light into a room, so easy to clean) but now available with a touch of softness too.

There are eight blinds in the Mondo Brevis collection and here I’ve picked three of my favourites, along with ideas for where they would look marvelous!

Thursday thought by tuiss :: Recycling batteries

Retailers selling more than 32kg of batteries a year must now provide recycling bins in a bid to cut the amount going to landfill. This is an excellent move forward as it’s estimated that in excess of 19,000 tonnes of general purpose batteries require disposal in the UK each year. Only 2% of batteries are recycled.

Why bother recycling batteries?

Firstly batteries contain a range of metals which can be reused as a secondary raw material.

Secondly batteries contain heavy metals, which are a cause for environmental concern. When disposed of incorrectly, heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes. This can contribute to soil and water pollution and endanger wildlife. Cadmium, for example, can be toxic to aquatic invertebrates and can bio-accumulate in fish, which damages ecosystems and makes them unfit for human consumption.

by tuiss :: Bright floral roller blinds

A bright blind bursting with colour and flowers is a sure fire way to raise a smile on even the gloomiest day!

Two of our brightest and freshest roller blinds are the Botanic Fresca with its white backdrop and the Botanic Jardin showcasing a green background, each shows off its wares in hot pink, chartreuse green and aqua.

Here’s what we have to say:

Botanic Fresca :: The upbeat brights in the Botanic Fresca will add a dramatic splash of colour to any scheme. Aquamarine, dark dusky pink and bright chartreuse green sit on a soft white background. The funky graphic florals weave across the fabric giving a colourful and lively look.

Botanic Jardin :: These dramatic graphic florals will put a zing into any scheme. A zesty green background displays an eclectic jumble of tumbling flowers. The bright hot pink contrasts happily with the aqua, while a touch of white and fawn add beautiful balance.
