New blinds :: Patterned roller blinds

Pattern is the new black and to celebrate we’ve just added seven new blinds to our patterned range of roller blinds.

The importance of pattern

Using pattern in a decor scheme instantly adds interest and character to a room. Introducing pattern using a patterned window blind is an easy, quick and relatively inexpensive way to transform a room.

Rest assured that adding a patterned blind to an otherwise beautiful or ‘safe’ scheme will really raise the style stakes, particularly those blinds with flamboyant and colourful patterns, the Fleurista Green for example. If you have a room with existing patterns then some of the quieter more reserved blinds will look super, maybe Chambray Natural.

Patterned blinds :: great if you’re new to interior design or not feeling very brave

Trying bright paints or investing in feature wallpaper can sometimes result in costly and time-consuming mistakes! A patterned blind is a little more fail-safe, simply order a sample of your favourite blind, take it with you to select other design elements such as paint colours and soft furnishings. Not forgetting of course sticking the sample on your wall or window and living with it for a few days. For our entire range please click patterned roller blinds or patterned blackout roller blinds.

Toile Wedgewood :: This roller blind is so elegant with its tasteful toile pattern in Wedgwood blue. Look closely and you will see that the pattern sets a tranquil rural scene of restful country pursuits. The timelessness of Toile Wedgwood will clearly suit a traditionally styled space particularly ones where blue plays a part in the colour scheme. Don’t ignore the opportunity to hang this blind in a modern setting though to give a quirky and retro twist.

Toile Wedgewood :: This roller blind is so elegant with its tasteful toile pattern in Wedgwood blue. The tranquil rural scene of restful country pursuits is timeless.

Fleurista Pink :: The pattern on this blind is picked out in hot pink on a white background giving Fleurista Pink an upbeat and cheery quality. Stretching florals reach for the light and are adorned by the occasional resting butterfly. The curving sinuous lines stop this blind from being too showy and lend it both elegance and grace. The colour and pattern makes Fleurista Pink quite a feminine blind. An obvious choice would be the bedroom of a teenage girl but it would also complement living areas, particularly those styled with stark whites and shots of vivid colours.

Fleurista Pink :: The pattern on this blind is picked out in hot pink on a white background giving Fleurista Pink an upbeat and cheery quality.

Toile Green :: At first glance this roller blind is a fresh apple green. Look a little closer however and you will notice a classic Toile de Jouy pattern picked out in very soft white. The pattern is a traditional pastoral scene that evokes feelings of calm and relaxation. The Spring colouring of Toile Green will look beautiful in any bright and fresh room, particularly one that needs a hint of pattern for that all important finishing touch. We’re thinking soft cream furnishings, vases of lilies and church candles, no doubt you’ll have your own thoughts though!

Chambray Truffle :: Chocolate brown remains a firm favourite among interior stylists and Chambray Truffle really hits the chocolate mark. What’s even better about this blind is the shot of double espresso courtesy of the floral pattern. This blind will look sensational in many rooms with its warm and comforting feel. Try it in a room of pale and interesting neutrals or in a room with other deep colours, we promise that Chambray Truffle will look as good as it sounds.

Chambray Truffle :: This really hits the chocolate mark and what’s even better about this blind is the shot of double espresso courtesy of the floral pattern.

Fleurista Green :: Fleurista Green has such a split personality. The contrasting colours of deep jade green and indigo purple sit quite harmoniously together thanks to their quiet richness. This roller blind will really help to unite a scheme of contrasting colours, particularly intense and moody tones. On the flip side however it will blast itself into a space of whites and neutrals adding drama and excitement. Fleurista Green has such potential to transform a space, we really love it here at tuiss.

Chambray Natural :: Chambray Natural has a wonderfully traditional pattern of trailing sprays and scrolls, its brought bang up to date however with popular tone on tone colours. The pattern picked out in taupe lies on an ecru background introducing subtle rather than over-bearing design. Such a stylish and sophisticated blind will work well with a refined and tasteful interior. Naturally it will work well in neutral spaces or rooms that favour a brown or beige palette, equally in more vibrant rooms it will bring a touch of calm.

tuiss Love :: Wiggly Wigglers

true-love-smallOver the years I’ve used Wiggly Wigglers many times, in fact my very first purchase with them, which was a can-of-worms wormery back in 2004 is still alive and squirming!

Wiggly Wigglers are based at Lower Blakemere Farm in rural Herefordshire and operate a wonderful business selling responsible and useful things for the garden and some for the home too. Despite offering so many traditional products Wiggly Wigglers are at the cutting edge of technology, you can view their ‘cinema’ as well as listen to their podcasts (which ideally need to be listened to while wearing big socks and clutching a mug of tea!).

You can’t fail to be impressed by Wiggly Wigglers, check out their floristy section and you will never use inter-flora again!

Pantone Colour of the year is turquoise :: tuiss turquoise blinds

Each year the people at Pantone select their colour of the year. For 2010 we have the pleasure of turquoise and in their words:

Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of well being.

Owing to its strength and depth turquoise is often used as an accent colour rather than the base colour of a room. It works very well with white injecting a zap of brightness. With other bright colours it’s positively tropical, take a look at Botanic Jardin to see what I mean. With earthy moody colours such as browns and greens then there’s drama and warmth.

At tuiss we have lots of blinds in this beautiful colour, some are deep and rich while others are soft and light. We have even more than choices than those shown here in both roller blinds and roman blinds.

Thursday thought by tuiss :: De-icing the car

You just know its wrong, squirting foul smelling chemical filled de-icer at the window. After a quick bit of searching here’s some top ideas for the annoying seasonal problem of de-icing your car.

  • Get an ice-scraper, cheap and really quite effective.
  • Use a windscreen shield or a black bin liner (just make sure you keep using the same one!) Old carpets and sheets will work ok too.
  • Place a (hot) hot water bottle on the dashboard while you have your breakfast!
  • Place a milk carton filled with water on the radiator at night then pour onto your screen in the morning. (Make sure the water is only lukewarm, any hotter and you may crack the screen.)

Igloos need tuiss NRG energy saving roller blinds

Here in Nottingham it’s snowing and my head is turning to making my home as warm and cosy as possible. I have my eye on the Eclipse NRG15 Cream thermal roller blind for the coldest room in our house, I just need to locate the tape measure!

Naturally my head then turned from my home and the 2cm of snow we have to igloos. A quick Google later and I was happily surfing images of ‘cool’ igloos on GrandShelters.com. Personally I think that this igloo is crying out for an energy efficient NRG blind. To order an NRG sample or blind simply click here, or to read the low down all the benefits then have a look at this recent blog post.

by tuiss :: Wooden blinds with tapes

tuiss wooden blinds just got even more special! The Forestria range of blinds is now available with cotton tapes, the combination of 50mm slat and 38mm tape gives a distinguished and classic look.

There are over 15 blinds in the range and all have been hand-selected by our design team to ensure that there’s a blind for every room and every style. The range includes beautiful blinds with harmonising tapes and there are also gems with contrasting tapes. All of the tapes add a touch of extra softness to the wood and just a hint of retro.

The tapes obviously look good but they also give added privacy and light control by overlaying the cord holes in the slats. The 50mm slat also works to keep the light out making these blinds the perfect choice for a bedroom and a long lie in! Here’s just a small selection of the range, please click here for the full range.

Complimentary tapes

How can anyone resist a Cherry and Chocolate blind? The chestnut tones of the Cherry are made even more appealing with the addition of the darker Chocolate tape, think a bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk and you’re spot on with the colour. This blind is so tasteful and refined and is versatile enough to suit both traditional and contemporary styles. It would be a wonderful addition to any elegant or sumptuous room, there’s no end of accessories that will coordinate with the Cherry and Chocolate combination.

Cherry and Chocolate :: How can anyone resist? The chestnut tones of the Cherry are made even more appealing with the addition of the darker Chocolate tape, think a bar of Dairy Milk and you’re spot on with the colour.

This is a stunning union of Ivory and Linen that brings to mind simplicity and tranquillity with a big shot of style thrown in for good measure. The wood and the tape tone harmoniously together, the tape being just a shade brighter than the Ivory. This blind will sit perfectly in rooms where a light blind is right but needs to be softer than pure white. This blind has wonderful leanings to shabby chic, think of weathered furniture and organic colours all threaded together with home comforts. It is a beautiful blind that can take your decor anywhere.

Ivory and Linen :: This is a stunning union that brings to mind simplicity and tranquillity with a big shot of style thrown in for good measure. The wood and the tape tone harmoniously together, simple elegance.

The creamy darkness of the brown Cacao cotton tapes co-ordinate beautifully with the raisin coloured depth of the Wenge giving a luxurious and stylish look. The tapes bring extra softness to the wooden blind making it perfect for any room in the home that begs to be cosy and snug. Imagine this blind teamed with other intense colours for a homely and traditional feel or in a room of soft creams and muted berry colours this blind would add strength to the scheme.

Wenge & Cocao :: The creamy darkness of the brown Cacao cotton tapes co-ordinate beautifully with the raisin coloured depth of the Wenge giving a luxurious and stylish look that’s warm & cosy to boot. Such a desirable choice.

Contrasting tapes

This combination is stunning and makes a sophisticated and eye catching statement. The blue of the cotton tape is straight out of a Farrow and Ball paint archive with its heritage feel, it lies somewhere between baby blue and sky blue, really bringing out the warmth of the white wooden slat. This coolest of designs will look utterly fabulous in a kitchen or bathroom where blue is a popular accent colour, the shabby chic of a coastal inspired room will also suit this blind. Don’t be mistaken though, this is no niche blind, in a room of creams, browns and highlights of blue this blind will look sensational.

Blanc & Lulworth :: This blind is stunning and makes an eye catching statement. The blue of the cotton tape is straight out of a Farrow and Ball paint archive with its heritage feel, really bringing out the warmth of the white wooden slat.

The contrasting Terra cotton tape gives the Vintage Oak blind a designer edge. The browny red russet colour of the Terra adds a touch of drama to the caramel tones of the Vintage Oak. This combination of mid brown wooden slat and auburn tones of the tape will sit very nicely in many rooms, just imagine it with a toning wall or in a room of pale neutrals with accents of earthy browns and rusty reds.

Vintage Oak & Terra :: The browny red russet colour of the Terra adds a touch of drama to the caramel tones of the Vintage Oak. The combination of mid brown slat and auburn tone of the tape has a designer edge.

The polar opposites of black and white always ooze sophistication when they are brought together and the combination of white Blanc slat and black Ebony cotton tape is no exception. The contrast between the colours of the wood and tape will cleverly echo rooms styled in mono tones giving subtle support to the scheme. If smart and contemporary are the watchwords of your room then we think you may have found the perfect blind.

Blanc & Ebony :: The polar opposites of black and white always ooze sophistication when they are brought together, this white Blanc slat and black Ebony cotton tape is no exception, a perfect mono blind.

Oak immediately conjures up thoughts of enduring and timeless style. The addition of the Linen tape only adds to the oak’s allure, adding an exclusive and beautiful touch. The contrasting tape in chalky white to the oak’s milky coffee makes this blind fit for so many rooms from traditionally styled to contemporary modern spaces. Hang it with neutrals or hang it with an intense and moody palette, it will deliver style and elegance every day.

American Oak & Linen :: Oak immediately conjures up thoughts of enduring and timeless style. The addition of the chalky white Linen tape only adds to the oak’s allure, adding an exclusive and beautiful touch.

A white wooden blind always delivers a strong design statement and the addition of the Soft White cotton tapes adds an extra special something. The tape is slightly brighter than the slat giving it just enough contrast to be noticed and admired. The pure and beautiful simplicity of this blind will work well in any room that’s fresh and bright. It has Scandinavian style stamped all of it so we can definitely see stripped floorboards, muted Nordic rugs and whites, creams and neutrals aplenty.

Blanc & Soft White :: A white wooden blind always delivers a strong design statement and the addition of the cotton tapes adds an extra special something. The tape is slightly brighter than the slat giving it just enough contrast.

Elm & Flax :: ????????????????????

Elm & Flax :: The Elm blind is already outstanding with its eye catching grain and beautiful colouring; the Flax tape with its almond tones adds even more character, combining superbly with the straw tones of the slat.
