tuiss Love :: Grand Designs magazine

tuiss loveI’m sure we’ve all drooled over a home on the Channel 4 Grand Designs programme, and cringed in sympathy as things have gone totally pear shaped for the poor home owner! There’s a magazine that accompanies the TV programme which features the gorgeous homes as seen on TV, plus there are features on great new products, design icons and trade secrets.

We’re are really pleased that the good people at Grand Designs have featured tuiss in the Radar section of the March issue of their magazine. Karma Zest roller blind is the blind that’s showcased, it’s a fabulous blind that is bursting with colour and interest in vivid chartreuse green.

tuiss Love :: Baby Duck Shop

tuiss loveWe truly love Baby Duck Shop, they tick all of our boxes; affordable luxury – their pricing is great, greener by nature – there’s lots and lots of organic and eco items to choose from and of course better by design – they have so many lovely products. We particularly like the upcycled sweaters by Barley and Birch. And incidentally their duck is very cute!

Baby Duck Shop blog, twitter and post on facebook too. Just where does everyone find the time?

Thursday thought by tuiss :: Reusable water bottles

Picture a bottle of ice cold water. Now imagine it filled a quarter of the way up with oil.

That’s about how much oil was needed to produce the plastic bottle. Makes you think doesn’t it? And that’s before we get onto the problem of recycling the empty bottle, it can take a plastic bottle up to 450 years to decompose in landfill. (The number of plastic water bottles sent to UK landfill sites each year would fill Wembley stadium twice over.)

So, to look stylish, save money and do your bit why not use a steel water bottle? Steel bottles are BPA free (whereas plastic ones may not be) and while the controversy over BPA rages stick to the infinitely cooler steel alternative. One Green Bottle has some gorgeous bottles, as has Cool Green Attitude.

Thanks to National Geographic and Which for the stats.

tuiss Love :: Lehel Kovács

tuiss loveLehel Kovács and tuiss have the same loves, Google and drawing that is. I’ll explain!

Lehel takes Google Map street views (and you know how much we love Google) and turns them into works of art by stripping each picture down and colouring beautifully. And that’s exactly what we do at tuiss to display our window blinds to you. Ta dah!

Thank you to Cool Hunting for the great link.

The art of saying thank you

It’s so rare in our fast paced world for somebody to take the time to say thank you, let alone take the time to hand write a letter of thanks. That’s just what one of our customers did though.

I am dropping you a few lines to say how delighted my husband and I are with our new made to measure blinds. It is always daunting to order what you cannot touch and feel, however both you and your company made it easy. My husband said they were easy to fit. From my first contact requesting samples your company have acted promptly and professionally.

The samples are a good size, beautifully packages and marketed. The website is excellent, easy to navigate with useful price guides and clear graphics. Phone contact with yourself was professional and easy. Delivery was with in two weeks of ordering – excellent, we will definitely recommend you to our friends, family and contacts.

We are only human and receiving such a nice thank you really put a smile onto our faces. By the way we think that the lady in question has excellent taste and how nice to see such lovely bright colours! Here for your delight is a selection of the blinds that so delighted.

We love the style of the art work by Freya, the words are inspiring and thought provoking while the beautiful colours are calming and serene. Freya is based in London but divides her time with her ‘little beachside studio in Phillip Island, Australia’. Is there any wonder that her illustrations ooze warmth and a smile?

Her work is one of purity of vision with a forever optimistic view of the world. Her quirky and thought provoking pieces are much loved and sought after and held in many public and private collections around the world.

by tuiss :: Neutral & natural window blinds

Designing spaces with neutral relaxed colours remains one of the most popular decorating trends. Indeed our most popular window blinds are always in that palette, call them what you will, cream, ecru, buff, beige, sand, jute or brown, we have them all!

On the tuiss site you can search by colour and we hope that you’re just a click away from your perfect neutral, choose from, roller, roman, venetian and wooden blinds. Many of our NRG energy saving blinds are in a neutral colour way, there’s also bags of texture and pattern to choose from.

Plain neutrals

Keep it plain and simple at the window if you’re going out on a design limb with big statement wall paper or patterned rugs and soft furnishings.

Thursday thought by tuiss :: Lose the biro, get a fountain pen

Just how many pens do we lose each week? Pens seems to have a mind of their own, they get carried off by others or occasionally even seem to walk off of their own accord.

The greener way is to invest in a fountain pen, and once more the greener way also turns out to be more stylish too! Try Webster’s Pen Shop, you can even go the whole hog and invest in a bottle of ink.

If the fountain pen isn’t for you then let me make a suggestion. Try taping your initials to the side of your humble biro, for whatever reason it won’t stray as often!

tuiss Love :: Philip Watts Design

tuiss loveThe designers at Philip Watts Design are an eclectic and talented bunch focusing on ‘creative architectural ironmongery’.

They take on all manner of interior design projects as well as designing everyday products with a cheeky or innovative twist. If that wasn’t enough they’ve also built an excellent reputation for designing and building the most marvellous staircases.

By the way their take on urinals is worth a peek and if you’re a twitterer then Philip Watts are too.
