I’ve just spent a very nice weekend wandering around beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. Between the cream teas one thing I noticed was the poor state of many of the window frames, they must have let in quite a draught, and occasionally a gale! Many of the homes and buildings are ‘listed’ so new energy efficient UPVC windows would look out of place or simply not allowed.

Each year the people at Pantone select their colour of the year. For 2010 we have the pleasure of turquoise and in their words:

Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of well being.

Owing to its strength and depth turquoise is often used as an accent colour rather than the base colour of a room. It works very well with white injecting a zap of brightness. With other bright colours it’s positively tropical, take a look at Botanic Jardin to see what I mean. With earthy moody colours such as browns and greens then there’s drama and warmth.

Igloos need tuiss NRG energy saving roller blinds

Here in Nottingham it’s snowing and my head is turning to making my home as warm and cosy as possible. I have my eye on the Eclipse NRG15 Cream thermal roller blind for the coldest room in our house, I just need to locate the tape measure!
