by tuiss :: Easter window blinds

Here at tuiss our mind is turning to Easter bunnies and chicks sitting on green grass with the odd chocolate egg thrown in.

We never need a big excuse to showcase our blinds so here’s our ‘Easter collection’. Personally I’m thinking Habitat Sunshine and Cherry and Chocolate is really quite close to a Cadbury’s Creme Egg.

Happy Easter to you all from tuiss.

Thursday thought by tuiss :: Newlife Paints

We’ve all wandered into the local DIY superstore and browsed the aisles and aisles of paints. There is another way though, here’s the story behind Newlife Paints.

When cleaning out his garage some years ago, Keith Harrison, discovered many tins of partly used old paint which needed disposing of. As an experienced industrial chemist, he felt uncomfortable about the waste of so much of a commodity that was a potentially valuable resource. Newlife Paints was born.

Newlife Paints was founded in 2008 for the express purpose of collecting waste emulsion paint and remanufacturing it to produce commercial grade paint using a special process developed in our laboratory.

Recent estimates have concluded that some 14% (or over 50 million litres) of paint sold last year is unused or stored in our garages, sheds and cupboards. A very substantial amount of this unused paint ends up either in landfill or incinerated.

The colour range shown here reflects the range of colours discarded as waste in the UK. There’s something so very quirky about painting in popular but wasted colours.

tuiss Love :: SeedSafe by Marti Guixe at Alessi

tuiss gotuiss lovees wild at the beginning of April so it’s timely that I spotted the SeedSafe designed by Marti Guixe for Alessi.

Here’s the idea, store the seeds from the fruit and vegetables that you eat, store them in the SeedSafe, plant them at your leisure and watch them grow. Easy and maybe fun too!

“Seeds are in some way more valuable than money. Therefore the seed safe is a must in each home. Keep the seeds you get from eating fruits, and then plant them to become a rich person.”

I first spotted this at Lushlee.

tuiss staff favourites :: Legno NRG12 Ecru

So this is our last staff favourite for our week of favourites. Showcasing today we have the Legno NRG12 Ecru roller blind and this is the choice of a lady from our samples’ department. Read all the detail on energy saving blinds here or click to buy here.

I think the entire Energy Saver range of roller blinds is fantastic. With rising energy bills it makes lots of sense to try and cut down usage wherever we can. I particularly like the Ecru because of its pattern and the fresh bright colours.

tuiss staff favourites :: Arboretum Poppy roller blind

My turn! I wish I had a room to do the Arboretum Poppy roller blind justice. I love the depth of the colour and can see it in a sunny room filled with rich woods and vases of fresh flowers.

As well as writing the blog I have the happy task of describing all the tuiss blinds, here’s my description, I think you can feel the love!

This blind is so beautiful with its gorgeous rich red colour and flamboyant flowers and sprays. In a room of warm neutrals and creams this blind will add a dollop of richness, while the sand colour of the blooms will blend magnificently.

The blind’s richness will also complement bolder sumptuous settings, imagine other reds and maybe browns rubbing alongside this blind. Arboretum Poppy isn’t a blind that shouts it just hangs in quiet splendour waiting to be admired.

tuiss staff favourites :: Fusion Maxim Solum

Today it’s the very tasteful Fusion Maxim Solum which is a firm favourite of another member of our team. The Fusion range is particularly special, it’s a unique fusion of aluminium slats, wooden rails and cotton tapes.

We have two options to choose from either a 25mm slat which is the Brevis range or the larger 50mm slat which is the Maxim range.

We’ve blogged about the Fusion range a few times, take look here and here if you want to hear us waxing lyrical!

The creamy slats really set the rich colour of the wood off beautifully. It’s very classy and looks expensive too.

tuiss staff favourites :: Concept Vision Engine perforated metal venetian blind

Today we are featuring a perforated metal venetian blind, the Concept Vision Engine. This is a favourite of another member of our team. This blind features a 25mm slat and is available in a range of colours, click through to see the full range of metal venetian blinds.

I actually have this blind in my kitchen at home and it’s amazing what you can see through the blind when it’s down, the perforations let lots of light in and let you see out too. Great if you’re a bit nosy and like to know what’s going on outside!

The engine colour works well with my brushed steel accessories too.

tuiss staff favourites :: Diffusion3 Graphite roman blind

Last week we showcased New York Steel roller blind on the blog because it was one of our web-designer’s favourite blind. Well we decided that we should see what the favourites were for the rest of the team too.

So kicking the week off we have the Diffusion3 Graphite roman blind which is a favourite of a gentleman from our customer services team. (Our  customer service team are very knowledgeable so feel free to give them a call if you need any advice.)

My favourite is the Diffusion3 Graphite roman blind as it ticks so many boxes, the colour is very much in fashion at the moment and the blind has plenty of small details that are subtle but add to the quality appearance of the finished blind. The best thing though in my opinion is that it protects furniture and soft furnishings by blocking UV while still allowing as much light into the room as possible.

by tuiss :: Screen roller blinds

This roller blind is an all singing all dancing masterpiece of innovation and technical wizardry! Sounds great doesn’t it? We think so.

In a nutshell this blind allows you to see out and no-one to see in, it also provides solar protection reducing glare and brightness on TV or computer screens. Thanks to the UV fabric these blinds are also energy efficient.

If that wasn’t enough the fabric is virtually 100% waterproof and washable, combine this with its bacterial and fungal resistant properties and you also have the perfect blind for kitchens.

What’s not to love about these roller blinds? If you love the fabric but a roller blind won’t suit the style of your room then you will be pleased to know that we also offer this fabric as a roman blind too, click the link to buy or click to read about them on the blog.

Diffusion3 Grigio roller blind

Optimum colour choice to suit your needs

This thoroughly modern blind is available in five contemporary colours from the very light diamond through to city chic grigio and deepest midnight.

A little bit on the science of colour, we all know that light is reflected off light colours and absorbed by dark colours. The colour of the fabric will therefore directly affect heat gain, brightness and glare.

The darker coloured blinds will absorb more light and heat so are less heat and energy efficient than lighter shades. However, due to the absorption these blinds will provide the best glare-free environments for computer and TV screens. Paradoxically dark blinds also offer a better view to the outside.

Lighter coloured blinds are more reflective so will result in lower heat gain, i.e. rooms will stay cooler. Be aware that in a very sunny room a lighter blind may cause bright surface brightness and therefore transmit light onto computer screens. If glare is a concern then choose a darker blind.

Thursday thought by tuiss :: reusable weigh bags

I must drive check out assistants barmy as I pretty much never use a plastic bag to put my fruit and veg in. I just can’t see the point of putting a head of broccoli or bunch of bananas  into a plastic bag. The only time I draw the line is if it’s pears which get bruised and dented so easily or if I have more than three of something!

I should probably invest less than a tenner in a set of one of these from Onya, tulle bags that are strong, see through and so lightweight that they won’t tip the scales ….

Onya Weigh Bag For Fruit And Vegetables

Other features include:

  • Ideal for washing fruit and veg – these ingenious little bags are also designed so you can use them as a colander too
  • Breathable storage prolongs life – most fruit ‘n’ veg types store better in a breathable net – not sitting in a plastic bag where they can sweat and bruise etc.
  • Simply hang the bags on a hook in the pantry and again the produce will last much longer
  • Just as useful in the Health Food shop for: nuts, grains, rice and lentils etc.
  • Can even be used as a laundry bag for small and delicate items
  • 5 mesh bags tuck into one little bag made from parachute material with karabiner hook.
