Bonfire Night with tuiss

To celebrate a man who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 16th century, we’ve turned some of our brand new collection of Tuiss Venetian blinds into a colourful fireworks display. Wonder if that’s what Guy Fawkes had in mind all those years ago?

In any case, our terrific new range is packed with colour and makes far less noise than actual fireworks. Head over to Tuiss to check out the full spectrum on offer and in the mean time, have a fantastic bonfire night and remember to enjoy the fun responsibly!

Trending Now : : Maps & Globes

Maps have been a popular part of home decoration since the 90s but still designers are coming up with new and interesting ways for you to explore the world from the comfort of your own home. From the antique to the modern, traditional to the abstract there are all sorts of ways you can decorate your space with a map of our planet. We’ve put together a mood board with just a few examples; including a clever globe bar that allows you to store your drinks inside a wooden, antique globe and an eclectic looking chest of drawers covered in beautiful sketches of the world at large. You can even decorate your window with maps, whether you prefer the more traditional looking Geograph Antique, or the more modern looking Geograph Ocean roman blind. Ideal for the intrepid traveller or for someone who dreams of far flung lands full of exotic creatures and tropical climes, maps are a great way of adding a sense of adventure to your home.

tuiss Loves : : Richard Clarkson

At first glance, you might think this was just a lamp. Well, actually at first glance you might think this was a cloud. But really, it’s a lamp. No ordinary lamp, though. This concept design by Richard Clarkson is what he calls a ‘semi-immersive lightning experience’ and is so much more than just a lamp.

Forgetting the technical jargon for just a second, the piece has two primary functions. Firstly, it acts as a nightlight, producing periodic flashes of lightning. Secondly, it’s a reactive speaker that gives visual feedback. What that means is, you can plug in your music device to play through the cloud and, in doing so, the cloud produces thunder and lightning according to the music it’s playing.

Cool huh?

Pantone’s 50th Birthday

Pantone’s legendary colour matching system is renowned the world over as the definitive way to ensure the right colours are used in the right places. It’s gained so much stature it even appears in various countries’ legislation, denoting the correct colours of their flags.

So, it only seems right that we doff our cap to the company founded by Lawrence Herbert as it celebrates its 50th birthday. The company has grown exponentially since its early beginnings but that original colour matching process is still in full effect in graphic design studios from Texas to Timbuktu.

To celebrate, Pantone have released a palette of colours to represent each decade of their existence. All of the selections give a little insight into the period they stand for, a visual embodiment of the Zeitgeist.

1990's Colours

This week, it’s the 90’s when “clothing went baggy and colours shifted to a mixed bag of neutrals and subtle shades and tints”. Sounds about right to us. In homage to the wonderful work Pantone have done, we’re off to match up some of our rollers and romans to see if we can recreate the look. First stop, Habitat Electric Lime…

tuiss loves : : Rory Dobner’s Abode

A few months ago, we were loving Rory Dobner and dedicated a post to his quirky, tongue in cheek line drawings. Now we’ve got the chance to see where the man himself lives and works and, if anything, we love him even more.

Just like his art, his home contains more than a little eccentricity, with funky retro furniture and eccentric artwork aplenty. There’s even a smattering of his own designs, including the manacled cat cushion we featured back in May. Clearly Mr Dobner and the Tuiss team share the same great taste!
