by tuiss :: Roller blinds with stripes

Stripes are always a popular design choice, adding stripes at the window with a stripey roller blind gives a superb look, the stripes marry so well to the straight lines of the window.

So why are stripes such a favourite?

  • They are a fantastic way of adding interest to a room, launch them into a plain room for instant design impact.
  • Such an easy way to tie a scheme of colours together.
  • Stripes needn’t always be formal, they can also be soft and flowing, just choose the right stripe for the room.

We have a great range of blinds with stripes, some are a classic stripe, take a look at the Banda range, while the Astria range in voile gives a light organic feel.

A designer tip is to put stripes against a single block colour, this makes the stripes stand out and also ensures that it’s not too busy.

tuiss Love :: Mad Men (& Fusion Venetian blinds)

tuiss loveI think I need a box set! Everyone is well and truly hooked on Mad Men the US drama set in the 1960’s in an advertising agency, and I missed the boat!

The 60’s had many iconic style and fashion looks, from miniskirts to beehives and mods. As far as home interiors were concerned it was all about G Plan, and as this Mad Men shot shows, window blinds! These blinds with their large slats and cotton tapes puts me very much in mind of our Fusion Maxim range, the Deco in particular matches the cool 60s style.

Mad Men

The Fusion Maxim Deco with its 50mm white aluminium slats lets light flood into the room, and the wooden rails and cotton tapes give undeniable style.

If you love the look of aluminium and wood then take a look at the complete Fusion collection where you’ll see we have a range of slats, tapes and wood colours.

by tuiss :: flower power with floral roller blinds

There’s nothing like a vase of flowers to lift the mood of a room, they inject freshness and welcome aplenty. For 24/7 cheerfulness and charm then you should consider decorating with floral designs. At tuiss we have a huge range of roller blinds that feature flowers and blooms.

We have every style imaginable, big blowsy florals, intricate delicate sketches, hand drawn blooms or trailing stems and sprays. And what about the colours? We have natural colours just as nature intended or deep moody plums and browns, or maybe you will take a shine to zesty brights.

In a neutral room there’s nothing like a feature blind to brighten the scheme and bring it to life or in a room that’s already bursting with character then why not try a tone on tone blind instead?

(By the way Chelsea Aubergine warms up my bathroom very nicely indeed!)

by tuiss :: Energy saving blinds for draughty windows

I’ve just spent a very nice weekend wandering around beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. Between the cream teas one thing I noticed was the poor state of many of the window frames, they must have let in quite a draught, and occasionally a gale! Many of the homes and buildings are ‘listed’ so new energy efficient UPVC windows would look out of place or simply not allowed.

It occurred to me, what these homes needed was tuiss NRG energy saving blinds! These Energy Saving blinds with their thermal coating can cut energy consumption and your bill by 15%. Clearly if your windows are particularly rickety then even more warm air will be drawn outside meaning that radiators have to work extra hard to keep it warm and toasty on the inside.

There are over 20 blinds in the tuiss range of ‘NRG’ energy saving roller blinds. The collection includes many neutral fabrics as well as greys, darker browns and pastels too. The blinds will work well in contemporary styled rooms as well as traditionally styled rooms.

If you like curtains but are tempted by the warmth of the NRG blinds then simply hang the blind inside the window recess and keep your curtains as well. This curtain / roller blind combination gives such a smart and luxurious look to a window.

The thermal coating on the rear of the blind keeps the heat in and the elements out, the most thermally efficient blinds are from the NRG15 range, the energy saved is 15%, that’s £133 per year saved off your energy bill and in your pocket instead.

tuiss Love :: Harris Tweed (and window blinds)

true-love-smallHarris Tweed is known as the ‘Champagne of fabrics’ and it’s steeped in history dating back centuries. The fabric is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity and we don’t think it’s hard to see why. (In fact we’re in the throes of developing a tuiss range of Harris Tweed blinds, more about that later!)

Authentic Harris Tweed is governed by its own Act of Parliament and to be given the Orb stamp of authenticity the cloth has to be made to stringent standards, this from Harris Tweed Hebrides:

The law decrees that genuine Harris Tweed must be made from pure virgin wool which has been dyed and spun on the islands and handwoven at the home of the weaver in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The cloth is then returned to the mill for finishing. Only then can it be given the famous Orb stamp which authenticates it, metre by metre. And each piece of tweed can be traced back to the individual home weaver.

At tuiss we are always looking for new avenues to explore and at the moment we are busy talking to Crofters about a collection of authentic Harris Tweed roman blinds. We can imagine how beautiful these blinds will be and are very excited.

Until we can get the blinds on stream why not have a look at our Connecticut roman blind collection? The fabric is inspired by tweed and has a wonderfully soft handle. We have more than 15 colours in the range and the fabric makes up into the most wonderfully luxurious blind.

by tuiss :: Roman & roller blinds with cotton seeds

For a natural look then cotton flecked and dotted with cotton seeds is second to none. The cotton seeds (or cottonseeds as one word) are usually removed from the cotton production process, however, for some fabric designs a proportion are left behind and incorporated into the weave. The seeds that are left add extra character to fabric as well as exuding a natural and luxurious feel.

How many seeds would you like? Roller or Roman?

Some fabrics have more seeds than others, choose the Stria Cotton roller blind for example which has quite a lot of scattered seeds, if you prefer less seeds then something like our Sommeil Calico blackout roller blind will fit the bill.

We have cotton seed fabrics available in both our roller, roman and blackout ranges, please click the links to see the entire range.

by tuiss :: Fusion Brevis Venetian Blinds with cotton tapes and wooden rails

Are you looking for something a little different? Why not consider a blind from our Fusion Brevis collection? We’ve taken a 25mm aluminium slat and then teamed it with cotton tape to overlay the cords. Sounds good so far? Then we’ve obviously added top and bottom rails…………………………in wood! The tape and the wood give the aluminium a softness yet substance also.

There are many bonuses of the Fusion Brevis range:

  • Fusion is exclusive to tuiss so we can promise you a unique look.
  • The cotton tapes work well at reducing the light into a room as they overlay the cord holes.
  • Big windows? Fusion has the answer with its wider than normal width (2887mm) owing to the strong head rail but lightness of the aluminium slats.
  • Our designers have put together some fantastic combinations, keep it light with Deco, go really dark with Obsidian or maybe hi-tech with Metro.

(If would like a wider slat then take a look at Fusion Maxim range which features 50mm slats. We’ve blogged about them too, have a look here.)

Fusion Brevis Solum

Fusion Brevis Solum :: Just where do you begin when describing the Fusion Brevis Solum? This blind has richness running through it from the warmth of the Cream aluminium slat to the Walnut wood and finally the deep depths of the Cocoa cotton tape.

Fusion Brevis Deco

Fusion Brevis Deco :: A wonderful blind, the Light Oak wood of the valance and bottom rail harmonises beautifully with the Gloss White aluminium slats. The white slats are further softened and warmed by the addition of the Natural cotton tape.

Fusion Brevis Urbane

Fusion Brevis Urbane :: This is a successful marriage of dark exotic Wengi wood and sleek silver aluminium slats giving a distinguished and sophisticated look. The Chocolate cotton tapes give the Urbane a final designer flourish.

Fusion Brevis Metro

Fusion Brevis Metro :: You may have been waiting for this blind for some time! An aluminium venetian blind is just the ticket for some rooms but the Metro cleverly raises the style stakes with the addition of a black wooden head rail and valance plus a black cotton tape.

Fusion Brevis Obsidian

Fusion Brevis Obsidian :: This makes a special and strong style statement with its luxurious good looks. The striking combination of the cotton tapes, aluminium slats and wood, all in black make this venetian blind extraordinary, we promise that it will be much admired by all.

New blinds :: Patterned roller blinds

Pattern is the new black and to celebrate we’ve just added seven new blinds to our patterned range of roller blinds.

The importance of pattern

Using pattern in a decor scheme instantly adds interest and character to a room. Introducing pattern using a patterned window blind is an easy, quick and relatively inexpensive way to transform a room.

Rest assured that adding a patterned blind to an otherwise beautiful or ‘safe’ scheme will really raise the style stakes, particularly those blinds with flamboyant and colourful patterns, the Fleurista Green for example. If you have a room with existing patterns then some of the quieter more reserved blinds will look super, maybe Chambray Natural.

Patterned blinds :: great if you’re new to interior design or not feeling very brave

Trying bright paints or investing in feature wallpaper can sometimes result in costly and time-consuming mistakes! A patterned blind is a little more fail-safe, simply order a sample of your favourite blind, take it with you to select other design elements such as paint colours and soft furnishings. Not forgetting of course sticking the sample on your wall or window and living with it for a few days. For our entire range please click patterned roller blinds or patterned blackout roller blinds.

Toile Wedgewood :: This roller blind is so elegant with its tasteful toile pattern in Wedgwood blue. Look closely and you will see that the pattern sets a tranquil rural scene of restful country pursuits. The timelessness of Toile Wedgwood will clearly suit a traditionally styled space particularly ones where blue plays a part in the colour scheme. Don’t ignore the opportunity to hang this blind in a modern setting though to give a quirky and retro twist.

Toile Wedgewood :: This roller blind is so elegant with its tasteful toile pattern in Wedgwood blue. The tranquil rural scene of restful country pursuits is timeless.

Fleurista Pink :: The pattern on this blind is picked out in hot pink on a white background giving Fleurista Pink an upbeat and cheery quality. Stretching florals reach for the light and are adorned by the occasional resting butterfly. The curving sinuous lines stop this blind from being too showy and lend it both elegance and grace. The colour and pattern makes Fleurista Pink quite a feminine blind. An obvious choice would be the bedroom of a teenage girl but it would also complement living areas, particularly those styled with stark whites and shots of vivid colours.

Fleurista Pink :: The pattern on this blind is picked out in hot pink on a white background giving Fleurista Pink an upbeat and cheery quality.

Toile Green :: At first glance this roller blind is a fresh apple green. Look a little closer however and you will notice a classic Toile de Jouy pattern picked out in very soft white. The pattern is a traditional pastoral scene that evokes feelings of calm and relaxation. The Spring colouring of Toile Green will look beautiful in any bright and fresh room, particularly one that needs a hint of pattern for that all important finishing touch. We’re thinking soft cream furnishings, vases of lilies and church candles, no doubt you’ll have your own thoughts though!

Toile Green :: This roller blind is fresh apple green, look a little closer and you will notice a classic Toile de Jouy pattern picked out in very soft white. Stylish and classic.

Chambray Truffle :: Chocolate brown remains a firm favourite among interior stylists and Chambray Truffle really hits the chocolate mark. What’s even better about this blind is the shot of double espresso courtesy of the floral pattern. This blind will look sensational in many rooms with its warm and comforting feel. Try it in a room of pale and interesting neutrals or in a room with other deep colours, we promise that Chambray Truffle will look as good as it sounds.

Chambray Truffle :: This really hits the chocolate mark and what’s even better about this blind is the shot of double espresso courtesy of the floral pattern.

Fleurista Green :: Fleurista Green has such a split personality. The contrasting colours of deep jade green and indigo purple sit quite harmoniously together thanks to their quiet richness. This roller blind will really help to unite a scheme of contrasting colours, particularly intense and moody tones. On the flip side however it will blast itself into a space of whites and neutrals adding drama and excitement. Fleurista Green has such potential to transform a space, we really love it here at tuiss.

Fleurista Green :: The contrasting colours of deep jade green and indigo purple sit quite harmoniously together thanks to their quiet richness.

Chambray Natural :: Chambray Natural has a wonderfully traditional pattern of trailing sprays and scrolls, its brought bang up to date however with popular tone on tone colours. The pattern picked out in taupe lies on an ecru background introducing subtle rather than over-bearing design. Such a stylish and sophisticated blind will work well with a refined and tasteful interior. Naturally it will work well in neutral spaces or rooms that favour a brown or beige palette, equally in more vibrant rooms it will bring a touch of calm.

by tuiss :: Wooden blinds with tapes

tuiss wooden blinds just got even more special! The Forestria range of blinds is now available with cotton tapes, the combination of 50mm slat and 38mm tape gives a distinguished and classic look.

There are over 15 blinds in the range and all have been hand-selected by our design team to ensure that there’s a blind for every room and every style. The range includes beautiful blinds with harmonising tapes and there are also gems with contrasting tapes. All of the tapes add a touch of extra softness to the wood and just a hint of retro.

The tapes obviously look good but they also give added privacy and light control by overlaying the cord holes in the slats. The 50mm slat also works to keep the light out making these blinds the perfect choice for a bedroom and a long lie in! Here’s just a small selection of the range, please click here for the full range.

Complimentary tapes
