tuiss loves :: Spring

So Christmas is long gone, the cold weather is hopefully behind us, and now it’s time to gear up for Spring! Spring brings with it the daffodil explosion, super cute ducklings, the dreaded Spring clean, a whole new wave of style trends and hopefully the ability to leave work and still some daylight left for a stroll home. And then there’s Easter!

For us, Spring is our favourite season of the year. We love the crisp fresh air, the beautiful Cherry Blossom trees and of course the endless pictures and videos of newborn lambs prancing about.

It’s also the time when most people start their home-improvement projects, thanks to the longer days and the end of the post-christmas slump. If you’re itching to spruce up your home and give it a new lease of life but thanks to that summer holiday fund you’re struggling to justify the spend, there’s cheaper alternatives to change the look and feel of your home without the full revamp.

The Spring Clean

The easiest place to start to brighten up your home is to give it a fresh start. Open up the windows, let the fresh air in, and send the musty scents out! Blinds and curtains are pretty good at carrying bad smells, so give them a thorough clean too – you can find tips and how-to’s on our Pinterest profile and around the web. Give other areas you may have skipped over the winter months a good clean too, including sofa cushions and throws.

Once you’ve kicked out every single element of winter, celebrate the new season with lovely vases of blooming daffodils (or other brightly coloured flowers if you prefer). Quirky vases, such as pouring jugs and mason jars, make cute accessories to the home and add a garden-fresh vibe.

New Style Trends

You don’t have to go and buy yourself a whole new suite of furniture to update your home. Changing the accessories can be enough. And this season’s top trend of Mediterranean delights is sure to do just that! It’s a scheme that’s so versatile and carries shades of blue, yellow, white and grey so you’re bound to find an aspect you can work with. Try updating your cushions, throws, bedding, crockery or ornaments, but make sure there’s a link between existing pieces and new ones else they’ll look out of place.

If you’re not feeling the Mediterranean fusion, then another key interior design trend is Botanical Beauty. Obviously, this one is mainly based in green shades, but other’s have delved into other tones as well (think back to the ‘Burnt Orange Archive Lampshade’ featuring the hand-drawn bee design from our In-Spaces blog post), so you’re not completely trapped.

Longer, Brighter Nights – Sorted

Longer nights and the early morning sun shouldn’t mean that your sleep has to suffer. The magic of blackout blinds is that it doesn’t need to be bright outside for them to work, so you don’t have to change it with the seasons. A lot of our beautiful designs (especially our Options range) come with the option of an additional blackout lining, so you can get the brightest, most colourful blind and still manage to get a decent night’s kip at the same time.
