tuiss Love :: Norton & Sons

tuiss loveNorton & Sons was established in 1821 by English Tailor Walter Charles Norton to make clothes for the young gentlemen of the City of London. The company still thrives to this day, just proving that there will always be a place for tradition and expert craftmanship, in this case Savile Row tailoring.

Here at tuiss we of course love fabric as do Norton & Sons.

At Norton & Sons we take great pride in sourcing the finest British materials. We use English Worsteds from the mills of Yorkshire, and the best woollen spun tweeds from the Borders, the Highlands and the islands of Shetland, Harris, Mull and Islay. Many of the Mills date back centuries, with their cloths gracing occasions from Coronations to the Oscars.

We also source two unique hand-woven tweed collections directly from individual weavers working in the Hebrides. These wonderful craftsmen create beautiful cloths using traditional methods.

Patrick Grant is the owner of Norton & Sons, he’s quite the chap about town and to hear his take on fashion, tailoring and dressing to impress just click here to go to an interview with Style Salvage.

tuiss Love :: Harris Tweed (and window blinds)

true-love-smallHarris Tweed is known as the ‘Champagne of fabrics’ and it’s steeped in history dating back centuries. The fabric is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity and we don’t think it’s hard to see why. (In fact we’re in the throes of developing a tuiss range of Harris Tweed blinds, more about that later!)

Authentic Harris Tweed is governed by its own Act of Parliament and to be given the Orb stamp of authenticity the cloth has to be made to stringent standards, this from Harris Tweed Hebrides:

The law decrees that genuine Harris Tweed must be made from pure virgin wool which has been dyed and spun on the islands and handwoven at the home of the weaver in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The cloth is then returned to the mill for finishing. Only then can it be given the famous Orb stamp which authenticates it, metre by metre. And each piece of tweed can be traced back to the individual home weaver.

At tuiss we are always looking for new avenues to explore and at the moment we are busy talking to Crofters about a collection of authentic Harris Tweed roman blinds. We can imagine how beautiful these blinds will be and are very excited.

Until we can get the blinds on stream why not have a look at our Connecticut roman blind collection? The fabric is inspired by tweed and has a wonderfully soft handle. We have more than 15 colours in the range and the fabric makes up into the most wonderfully luxurious blind.
